  • They generally do not arrive alone, since in order for the sample to be displayed as it should be, it needs to be sealed, so that the laboratory slide is accompanied by a coverslip.
  • It is necessary that these instruments are always kept in dry places, without humidity, since this completely influences the observation of the samples.

It must be placed on the microscope stage for complete analysis. Generally, it is often confused with the coverslip , although the two work together but their specialties tend to be different.

How does the laboratory slide work?

Unlike many other laboratory instruments, the slide is characterized by having a very simple and basic applied functionality, always requiring the hand of man since it is based on placing the sample on it, to then be sealed with the coverslip. and finally be placed on the stage of the microscope.

It is necessary that the sample is placed on the sheet in not too large quantities and with great care that it does not move, as well as it is necessary to be careful when sealing it. Once the slide is placed on the microscope stage, it must be held in place with the hooks on the sides of the instrument, otherwise the slide could shift and the sample would be lost.

There is also another way to place the sample on the slide, which is called wet mounting (the above process is known as dry mounting ), and is based on placing the sample on the slide and hydrating it with the relevant liquid. Each experiment and sample type will divide the type of setup to be used.

Plastic slides.

Although this type of sheet resembles the previous one because it is glass, it has the special characteristic of being created with different elements, which promises more quality, performance, results and durability.

Laboratory slides can also be classified according to their specialization , thus the following types are found:

Standard slides.

This type of slide tends to be the most common of all, since it has a rectangular shape that adapts to any microscope and helps to analyze any type of sample that is desired. They are the most basic and their costs tend to be affordable.

Slides with cavities.

This type of sheet is characterized by being thicker than the previous one, especially since its use is mainly intended for the study of materials in suspension.

Slide with colored lines.

As its name indicates, and although it is not completely transparent as normal, these slides are those that have some color bands that are used for the analysis of objects in chromatography.

Special slide.

These are sheets that are considered special since they have certain specific characteristics that determine them as direct for thick sample procedures.

Diagnostic slides.

As its name indicates, this type of sheet is one that is used to analyze samples in the health area, since those that contain antibodies and any other type of element that produce a specific pathology are placed on them.

Matte band slides.

Finally, there is the type of slide that has a matte band, as its name tells us, it is one of the ends of the slide, in order for the analysis of the samples to be more detailed and specific.
