What is a Linear Condenser Tube?

What is the Linear Condenser Tube for?

Keep in mind that in most cases the liquid used to cool the vapors is water . As we mentioned, it is important that it circulates properly so that they obtain the appropriate temperature. But also so that it allows the condensation of vapors.

However, we must emphasize that this is not the only refrigerant that exists. Because there are others that also allow this work to be done. A clear example of another refrigerant fluid can be ethanol, by means of which thermostatically cooling can be achieved through a recycle pump unit.

It must be borne in mind that thanks to the other types of cooling liquids, the amount that the condenser cools down is achieved below 0 ° C.

Regarding the uses of this instrument, we can say that it is generally used for reflux. In this process the hot vapors of a liquid solvent . Which should be heating in the flask, and then they cool down and therefore stop dripping.

Dimroth condenser

It receives its name from Otto Dimroth and is characterized by having a certain resemblance to the Graham condenser. In this case we find an internal double spiral as a cooling medium. In this way it is possible to maintain the cooling both at the outlet and in the air inlet.

Liebig condenser

In this case we have a water condenser with a very simple design . In it we can find the inside of the straight tube and it is considered much more efficient than a simple retort. Thanks to the fact that it uses a type of liquid cooling.

What happens in these cases is that water can absorb much more heat than the same volume of air. Besides, as its circulation is constant through the external water chamber, it is possible to constantly maintain the temperature of the condenser.

Friedrichs or Friedrichs condenser

This condenser is characterized by having a large cold finger-type internal spiral which is arranged inside a cylindrical capsule with a larger diameter. Relative to the refrigerant, it flows through the inner tube. So the circular vapors can condense on the inner tube, as they cool down.

Allihn or bulldozer capacitor

Also known as a reflux condenser, it has a long glass tube with a water jacket, which circulates through the outer tube. It also has a series of constrictions and bulging . Right in the inner tube that allows to increase the surface by which the steam components can condense. This type of condenser stands out for being ideal for reflux on a laboratory scale.

Air cooled condensers

In this case we are talking about the simplest type of air condenser there is. For these cases we find a tube, and the heat of the liquid diffuses through the glass. In this way it is possible to cool by means of the outside air.
