The micrometric screw is an invention made in the seventeenth century, specifically around the 1640s. Its creator was, Wiliam Gascoigneen, who modernized a vernier, in order to achieve more accuracy and precision in the measurements of his work.

At first it was used in telescopes, to make angular type measurements of the stars that were visualized, which were completely far from the current measurement destination.

It was not until years later, specifically on September 7, 1848, that a Frenchman named Jean Louis Palmer, made a new modification, in order to give it the ability to make small measurements like the ones we know today and that is why This, that in the European continent, this instrument is known as Palmer or Screw Palmer.

Importance of the Micrometer Screw

It is an instrument that has had a recognized significance since its invention in the seventeenth century. Well, it has been a fundamental pillar initially in the astronomical research and advancement processes , since it was used in its beginnings to measure the stars.
