Oximeter, what is it and how much does it cost?

The Oximeter is a device that allows specialists to know what the oxygen saturation in the blood is. With this device there is no need for a blood draw. It is used mainly in patients with cardiovascular problems. The type of oximeter that the doctor uses is a device that takes the patient’s pulse. Said oximeter is connected to a monitor in which the cardiovascular medicine specialist can monitor the patient.

How many types of  oximeters  are there?

The oxygen saturation of arterial hemoglobin can be measured continuously using  real-time
oximetry . The latest generation oximeters are non-invasive,  portable , self-calibrating , easy to use and also provide continuous measurement.
Two methodologies,  spectrophotometric oximetry and   photoelectric plethysmography , have been applied  for non-invasive determination.

Although the precision of oximetric measurements  of Sa02 has been extensively studied under steady state conditions. It has not yet been critically evaluated under conditions involving dynamic changes in heart rate.
Verifying the dynamic response of any oximeter requires an independent measurement of
arterial saturation. However, arterial blood cannot be drawn continuously to measure dynamic changes in Sa02 during desaturation.
