It is difficult to imagine all the things that we can measure, for each variable there is a specialized device that fulfills the function of quantifying it. In this case, I will tell you about the roughness of any surface or of a perforation, using the roughness meter as a measuring instrument.

A compact and highly technological equipment, unknown to many but of vital importance in the fields of research and especially for industrial processes.

A roughness meter is a measuring instrument in charge of quantifying the roughness that a surface presents or, failing that, a perforation. Roughness in the field of physics is those imperfections, irregularities, unevenness or inequalities that in one way or another have been formed in these spaces.

  • Arithmetic roughness (Ra)

  • Medium roughness (Rz)

It allows establishing the length that exists between the largest roughness and the smallest roughness.

  • Total roughness (Rt)

Add up all the maximum heights that have been reflected from the center.

  • Square roughness (Rq)

Find a square root of all the roughnesses that have been achieved along the surface.

In order to make roughness measurements, this element is composed inside by a sensor capable of detecting all these irregularities almost perfectly.

All you have to do is put the device in contact with the surface and it will automatically give you the values ​​obtained from it in microns on the screen that is included.
