Piseta, what is it and what is its price?

November 2, 2021

Each material within a laboratory plays a fundamental role for the development of studies and research. Regardless of their role, they add value to teamwork. Such is the case of the piseta that, although its appearance is simple, its usefulness is elementary in chemistry and biology laboratories.

And it is that the tank is an instrument that allows to maintain the hygiene conditions in the laboratory . That is why its function is of the utmost importance. This is the reason that makes it so special and unique. Reason enough to know a little more about her.

What is the Piseta?

In addition to receiving the name of a tank, it is also known as a washing flask or a washing flask . It is in itself, a common bottle to which a kind of straw is incorporated for the exit of liquids. This liquid is usually a solvent, such as distilled water.

The main task of the tank is to clean or wash other instruments , thus avoiding contamination from the samples placed on said laboratory materials.

What is your function?

There are many functionalities that can be attributed to the shirt. Most of the cases, this is used for the cleaning and the maintenance of the phytosanitary conditions of the other instruments used in the laboratories . These are the main functions:

  • Clean plastic materials of various qualities that exist within the laboratory.
  • Cleaning of glassware, which requires more careful maintenance.
  • Rinse the capacity to prepare different solutions.
  • It significantly reduces the cost of cleaning the jars. Being special for this, its system saves time and product in considerable quantities.
  • The best equipment for cleaning frosted glass.
  • It is usually used to clean flasks, beakers and test tubes.
  • In addition to cleaning laboratory materials, it also serves to dissolve substances with distilled water or another type of solvent.
  • On certain occasions, a different nozzle is added to the tank to collect liquids and isolate them inside the container.

The applicability of t-shirts is universal. These can carry out an extensive list of functionalities, which has allowed it to be classified as a complete and auxiliary instrument of first necessity for each laboratory .

How is the t-shirt used?

Depending on the purpose for which the t-shirt is determined, its operation may vary. Everything will depend on whether it will be used for washing or for collecting liquids.

If your intention is the primary one, which is to clean instruments. Then you just need to open the tank at the neck and place the solvent inside . This can be, as we said, distilled water. However, you can also add ethanol, methanol, hexane, or another liquid solvent. Once the liquid is poured, seal the tank.

In case it is a plastic tank , you will have to press in the middle of the bottle so that the liquid can come out and clean. On the other hand, if it is a glass tank , you just have to hold it by the neck and press down on the straw so that the liquid can come out.

There are also t- shirts with two straws . One of them allows you to blow the liquid after filling the tank with the solvent. In that case, the second straw would be where the liquid would come out.

On the other hand, if what you need is to use the tank to collect a liquid, the first thing you should do is change the nozzle for one that allows you to absorb the liquid . Once the change is made, you just have to squeeze or suck, depending on the type of t-shirt you use.

Where is the t-shirt used?

The use of the shirt revolves around three main axes. These are: the washing of instruments, absorption of liquids and the balanced distribution of a liquid .

In general, it is used mainly in laboratories, given its facility to remove waste or toxic elements from laboratory materials. In this way they are sterilized so as not to contaminate the new tests.

The fact of having a straw for the outlet of the liquid gives you the possibility of limiting the portions of liquid, dividing them into other instruments, with multiple functions.

On the other hand, if you have obtained a liquid end product from a reaction, or just a portion left that you would like to store, change the nozzle and voila. You can save it in a few seconds. As we have been able to appreciate, the tank is used in everything related to laboratory procedures, whether they are transformation processes, experimentation, creation or elimination of substances.

This is what makes the tank an instrument of first necessity in the laboratory. Its use guarantees the procedures practiced , allowing the results to be accurate and reliable.

Types of piseta

Inside a laboratory you can find many types of t-shirt. These can be differentiated from one another by the manufacturing material, the solvent they contain or by their operating mechanism .

Given its great variety, below, we will show you the main types of t-shirts that you can find in any laboratory. These are:

According to the manufacturing material

Almost all t-shirts are made with different materials. Thanks to this they can be coupled to the safety conditions for each solvent. This is the reason why we commonly see plastic or glass t-shirts.

Polyethylene Plastic

It is the cheapest material to make t-shirts. This allows you to perform simple tasks with non-reactive, low-temperature solvents , which do not harm this material.

Glass

With glass tops, there is greater resistance to solvents . This material makes it possible to use certain liquids that would not be supported by polyethylene plastic.

Nalgene plastic

This is a specialized type of plastic capable of storing almost any solvent . An additional feature is that it maintains its internal purity, thus becoming an ideal equipment for microbiology work.

According to the solvent to be used

To achieve this classification, a color code has been determined on the caps that indicate the type of solvent used by each tank. These are:

Blue cap

T-shirts with this lid can contain only distilled or demineralized water .

White cap

This is another of the most seen covers in laboratories. While it may contain distilled water, its main function is to store sodium hypochlorite or ethanol .

Yellow cap

T-shirts with this cap may only contain isopropanol .

Green cap

If you find a t-shirt with this cap, you should know that its content is exclusively methanol .

Red cap

The t-shirts that have a red cap are the most resistant, this type of t-shirts can store acetone .

According to the operating mode

Here it refers to whether it is a unilateral or dual tank. Everything will depend, as we mentioned above, on how many straws you have.

An exit

They are the ones that have a single straw to be able to pour the liquid . The container (if it is plastic) or the straw (if it is glass) must be squeezed to use.

Two outputs

This type of t-shirt uses a propulsion mechanism on the second straw . In this, it is blown or sucked, as the case may be for the outlet or inlet of a liquid.

Even though it is a simple laboratory instrument, the t-shirts must be differentiated to be able to do the cleaning work effectively within the laboratory.

Characteristics of the T Shirt

The tank is a very unique laboratory instrument, since it has certain particular characteristics that allow it to be differentiated from other laboratory materials . Its main characteristics are these:

  • They are containers made only of specialized plastic or glass.
  • Its base is cylindrical and the liquid is poured through a long, curved straw.
  • The inside of the container is for solvent only. Storing another type of liquid in it can contaminate or completely damage them.
  • The tank is made up of three parts: The cylindrical container, the screw cap and the tubular extension that comes out of the container and has a small opening at both ends for the expulsion of liquids.
  • Specific models of t-shirts can have two tubes.
  • Its use is usually almost always exclusively for laboratories. These can be from physics, biology, chemistry, or medical.

It is a very easy to use instrument. In addition, it has a wide variety of properties that make it possible to perform aseptic work , taking care of all the details related to the operation and the structure.

Latest Recommendations

To ensure that the useful life of the tank is met, it is necessary to carry out a series of recommendations. To be successful in this, you will need to ensure the correct operation of this instrument . You can achieve this by doing the following:

  • At all times you should be guided by the color of the caps to know what solvents to put inside. If you make a mistake, you could damage the packaging. If you find it a bit difficult to remember the meaning of the colors, you can put a label outside the container with the names of the solvents on each tank.
  • If you are going to work with a solvent that generates gases, the tank must have an outlet for the expulsion of the liquid .
  • Regularly try to clean them thoroughly with distilled water or another chemical allowed that does not contaminate the container.
  • The tank is an instrument that should be available to anyone in the laboratory. Thus facilitating its immediate use.
  • Take the instrument gently and it contains liquids at high temperature. In that case, take the container by the neck.
  • Be careful every time you change the mouthpiece for one that absorbs.
