Tool Belt, which one to choose and why?

November 2, 2021

There are great differences from one profession to another or from one profession to another. Often when we talk about carpenters, laborers or electricians, we think that they are total opposites since we talk about wood, concrete and electricity, and that yes, they use different tools. But something they have in common is an instrument that helps them carry their tools or work instruments. If you have found yourself in the middle of some unexpected task that required more than two tools and getting on the roof, and also, you were alone without any possible assistant in sight, you will most likely find out the hard way how important it is to have a belt of toolswith you. This friend can save you the fatigue of going here and there (or up and down) to find something you need, when you could easily just have it all at your fingertips, hanging from your waist.

In this article you will see the types of tool belts that exist, at least 3 of them, and so you can know for yourself which is the right one for your type of work. Remember that you are the one who knows best what is best for you.

What is a Tool Belt and what is it for?

A belt is a garment that is shaped like a slightly elastic or flexible band that is usually made of leather or other resistant materials . It is used by placing it around the waist (or hip) and that is why it is called a “belt”, because it goes on the waist of the wearer. A tool belt is the same thing, but with several compartments where you can place your tools to have a more direct and easy access to them.

Since ancient times, the belt has been used as a garment for men and today it is also for women. However, when we talk about tool belts we are referring to a specific type of belt. It is not used to support your pants or to make you look good, it is practically another tool and not an accessory.

Tool belts serve to save you a lot of work while you are on your job to repair something or install some electricity. And you might be wondering why you would need one of these, if you already have a box to store your tools. Well, let me explain. The belt is not a tool box , it is not to store them but to hold them close to you as an assistant would hold it when you need more than one thing at a time and you do not have the freedom to move by yourself.

Types of Tool Belt

Like all items today, there are many types of tool belts. Next, I will show you three types so that you can distinguish which one works best for you.

  1. Waist Tool Belt I know it’s a redundant name, but that’s the name. This is the most common type of belt and can be used for whatever task or project you have in mind to do. There are many materials, we recommend that you choose the one with the thickest fabric and check the fit, because the idea is not to drop it.
  2. Harness-type Tool Belt. This type is used much more when you have to do work at heights . They are like those at the waist, but they have resistant straps that you put on as a backpack, so you will feel more secure. You can buy one like that or if you already have a waist one, you can buy the straps separately and adapt it.
  3. Apron-type Tool Belt. As its name implies, this is used the same as an apron or, rather, as a vest. This is ideal for indoor work.

Whichever you choose from these three types, the recommendation is that you choose a quality one so that you do not have to buy another in a long time. You can buy a specific type or buy waist and adapt it, as it suits you best. When you go to choose it, take into account the tools you use the most and calculate whether or not they fit in the compartments, just as there are types, there are different sizes. So be careful with that.

Something else you should know

When we talk about tools, instruments or materials for work, we talk about their quality. Find out well before going to buy, which are the brands that have the best reputation in the market. I recommend the Stanley, Toolmen and Caterpillar brands . They make very good quality tools and gadgets like that. And yes, possibly some models are a bit expensive (there are double seat belts too, by the way), but in these cases it is better to invest in a good belt.

Tool belts are not like napkins, which we will renew soon because they are disposable. The belts are made to be with you for years and get the most out of them. It is not a purchase to make monthly like buying terminals, cables or electrical tape, it is a purchase of once every few years. So it is better that you spend a little more now, than you have to spend a little each time.

Anyway, check your local stores too . There may be a local manufacturer that you are unfamiliar with that has good quality and low prices. Everything is possible.

The belts have been created to make your life easier, so that being alone you do not need more assistance than yourself (and come on, that way you save paying an assistant). They’re made to help you work efficiently and with peace of mind, and to give you safe and convenient compartments for smaller tools that might otherwise get lost in the middle of your toolbox mess. You can also consult trusted colleagues where they have purchased their belts, the most important thing is that you get it because it is undoubtedly necessary. Once you work with a belt the first time, you will notice the difference .
