Wooden Laboratory Tweezers – What is their function?

Wooden tweezers are a tool used to hold test tubes for the purpose of pouring substances into them or while they are being heated.

The wooden laboratory clamp is a clamp made of wood and its design consists of one arm that is longer than the other. This is useful to be able to hold the tube and keep your hand at a distance.

In the center of the wooden clip there is an elastic spring that forces the clips to be closed.

Uses of the wooden clamp

We all know that wood is an excellent heat insulator and has a great ability to withstand moderate temperatures. But be careful, because it is important that the wooden clamp does not get close to the fire, expose it to very high temperatures or to chemical products that are corrosive.

If the lab technician needs to expose the forceps to high temperatures, or needs to bring the forceps very close to fire, they should opt for the use of a metal forceps. The indicated forceps would be the flask clamp or the crucible clamp. These clamps can be brought close to the flame or exposed to high temperatures.

Types of forceps used in a laboratory

Burette forceps

The buret clamp is a V or X-shaped metal instrument and is used to hold one or two burettes in an upright position. The V-shaped forceps hold one burette and the X-shaped ones hold two burettes.

Mohr forceps

It is a metal device that is adjusted to a rubber duct by pressure. It is mainly used as a key in the tube of a Mohr burette. It is a rubber tube.

Test tube clamp

This type of tweezers can be found in metal but they are also made of wood. They are used to adjust test tubes and do so by means of a mechanism that exerts pressure. The clamps for test tubes made of metal, if they can be exposed to high temperatures.

Crucible clamp

The crucible clamp is a metal tool that is shaped like an X and with it, crucibles can be handled at elevated temperatures.

Plastic clamp

Plastic laboratory tweezers are not built with any type of plastic, but highly resistant materials are used. And the plastic used in plastic laboratory tweezers withstand temperatures up to 200 ° C.

Three Finger Tweezers

Three-finger laboratory tweezers are also known as refrigerant tweezers. The fingers on the gripper are arranged in such a way that they look like a claw and each of them is covered by rubber.

The clamp has three fingers and with them you can hold objects that have an uneven surface. Glass objects can also be held.

Dissection forceps

Dissecting forceps look like eyebrow forceps. They are metallic and are made up of two arms and a notch on each arm. They are useful for taking, holding, approaching, compressing, or attracting objects.

Beaker tweezers

This type of tweezers, as its name says, have been designed to hold beakers. They are very versatile and with them you can take other objects that have a surface similar to that of a beaker.
